about

Where do you start with your heros? One of mine is Inigo Calderon, former Brighton and Hove Albion footballer and legend on the South Coast. It wasn't just the silky skills that the talented Spaniard brought to a lower league club, playing their home games at a temporary athletic stadium without any proper stands. You just got very wet when it rained. Even with the clubs' subsidised £1 plastic ponchos. On the pitch, the club was transformed by more impressive Spaniard colleagues but they weren't like typical footballers. They drank coffee, worked tirelessly on the pitch but moreso off it, supporting community projects and particularly disabled supporters. Calderon believed that it should be mandatory in all players contracts to have compulsory community work. To give back to the fans. I can't begin to tell you just how much good this humble man did over the years and how much regard as a human being he is held in. I shed a tear when he left. What would I do with my donkey and sombrero? I enjoyed writing lyrics for this one... 'This man could turn on a Paseta'
Please take your seat in perpetuity Inigo!

lyrics

INIGO

a once battered old sole, poor amigo!
a windy old drench at Withdean-o
then a grey in to blue Alicante breeze

it's cold and exposedI sat in my poncho
and nearly choked on my manchego
rubbing my eyes, is this a Spanish dream?

light your name up in stars
and let it go for Inigo

ba ba da ba ba ba da da
ba ba da ba ba ba da da

and so I sat there with my señorita
row Z has never been sweeter
Im getting used to this Mediterranean scene
a scoring face , a Basque entertainer
this boy could turn on a peseta
gracias, eskerrik asko

Ill light your name up in stars
and let it go for Inigo

ba ba da ba ba ba da da
ba ba da ba ba ba da da

So it came to the end oh nightmare-o
What would I do with my donkey and sombrero?
It’s beginning to feel like a `Greek tragedy
a humble soul, a community saviour
so much more than a left side creator
Please take a seat in perpetuity

Ill light your name up in stars
and let it go for Inigo

ba ba da ba ba ba da da
ba ba da ba ba ba da da

do you know just who you are?
do you know just what you are?
do you know just what you are?
do you know just what you are?
you’re my hero!
